Christmas markets in Italy and Germany, in Bolzano, Trento, Verona, Milan, Florence, Rome, Naples, Berlin, Nuremberg, Hamburg, Dresden, Cologne, Heidelberg, and many more.

As Christmas gets closer, festive markets pop up all over Italy, offering high-quality gifts, decorations, excellent food, and wine. For many Italian cities, Christmas markets are a new tradition brought from Northern Europe, but some regions offer a more authentic experience. For example, the South Tyrol region next to the Austrian border boasts many historical and established Italian Christmas markets against the backdrop of breathtaking mountains.

Famous Italian Christmas markets run in major cities like Turin, Milan, Florence, and Verona. Florence Christmas market is centered around Piazza Santa Croce with a strong feel of German traditions. Christmas markets (Mercatini di Natale) in Milan are scattered across the city and offer a great program full of entertainment and Christmas shopping.

Bussolengo Christmas Village in the province of Verona, known as Il Villaggio Di Natale Flover, is not to be missed. This tradition began in 1996 and the area covers over 7,000 sq m of indoor space. The village impresses with the lavish Christmas decorations, hand-crafted goods, and seasonal foods, the best of which is the Xmas Burger. The most awaited of all events is the dinner with Santa Claus, usually held every Thursday and Friday between late November and mid-December.

Aosta Valley in northwest Italy, bordering France and Switzerland, hosts one of the most picturesque markets – the Marché Vert Noël. Over 50 chalets offer sweets and pastries from the region, as well as, ideas for unique gifts. The Aosta Christmas Market is also famous for handmade candles and soap, Christmas decorations, ceramics, and antique furniture. There is also clothing made from natural fabrics like wool and felt, the region is also known for its beautiful lace. This market takes place at the archaeological site of the Roman Theatre.

The town of Bolzano in Trentino-Alto Adige in South Tyrol, bordering Switzerland and Austria, hosts a Christmas Market famous all over Italy. With the picturesque snow-capped Rosengarten Dolomites surrounding the medieval town, it’s hard to imagine a better Christmas destination.

Bolzano Christmas Market (Bozner Christkindlmarkt) is brightly decorated with traditional garlands and lights. The scents of pine, roast chestnuts, and spices fill the streets. Held at Piazza Walther, Bolzano Christmas market offers handmade wood and glass gifts, ceramics, and seasonal treats.

Tyrol town of Trento is home to a magical Christmas Market with a cozy and festive atmosphere, unique gifts, and traditional foods. About 100 wooden chalets cover two medieval squares: Piazza Fiera and Piazza Cesare Battisti. Local craftsmanship will show their best products and gastronomy. Try delicious local specialties such as treccia mochèna pastry, polenta brustolada, canederli, and parampampoli.

Christmas markets in Rome

The town of Pordenone in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region features a large Christmas market with concerts, shows, and games during the whole season. Check out the life-size nativity scene with hand-carved wooden statues and other attractions on Piazza XX Settembre and Corso Garibaldi in Pordenone.

The Christmas markets in Rome take place on different squares and near different attractions. Even though Rome doesn’t really know winter temperatures, with all the Christmas illuminations and Christmas decorations you will still get this special Christmas feeling in Rome. On some Christmas markets you can find vintage carousels and since most markets are located next to famous attractions there is a special atmosphere on Roman Christmas markets.

The Roman Christmas market at Piazza Navona is one of the most famous markets in Rome. You can find local sellers, toys, street musicians and artists, several nativity scenes and amusement rides. All that in front of Bernini’s Fountain of the Four Rivers and the church Saint Agnes in Agone.

Naples is famous all over the world for its Nativity scenes, in particular San Gregorio Armeno Street is the way of the Neapolitan Presepe here are the workshops of the artisans of the Nativity, where they build the wonderful figurines that make up the Neapolitan cribs.

San Gregorio Armeno is in fact dedicated to Christmas at any time of the year, in fact the artisans always work on the preparation of the typical terracotta figurines and the huts of the cork cribs, but during the month of December the street becomes a real market that has Christmas as its theme, offering the best of itself in a truly suggestive atmosphere.

Christmas markets in Berlin

Another place to check out during the Christmas season is Como’s Città dei Balocchi (City of Toys) from late November until early January. For over a month the city transforms into a fabulous nativity town entertaining both kids and adults. Check out the Como Magic Light Festival, Christmas Market in Cavour Square and Plinio Street, Santa Claus’ Post Office, and, of course, the ice-skating rink. The main festivities traditionally begin on Christmas Eve with the arrival of Santa Claus in Piazza del Duomo. The last celebration takes place on Epiphany Day again in Piazza del Duomo when a mythical old lady Befana descends from a rooftop.

Christmas markets in Germany. From Nuremberg and Hamburg to Dresden and Cologne, the run-up to Christmas sees town squares all over Germany filled with festively decorated huts selling handcrafted goods and delicious food.

When people think of German Christmas markets, the one that stands out in terms of history, lore and tradition tends to be Nuremberg. Though its direct origins are murky, historians believe it began during the early 17th century. A key custom that marks its commencement is the parading of the holy cherub Christkind (‘Christ child’) – the traditional giver of gifts at Christmas time, played by a child in the city – through Nuremberg’s central square, the Hauptmarkt. The Christkindlesmarkt (‘Christ child market’) opens at the start of Advent and runs until Christmas Eve. The unique souvenirs on sale include specialities from the Franconian region, such as brandies, fruit jams and clothes made from local wool.

Berlin’s many Christmas markets are as diverse as the city itself. Many diverge from the traditional to champion multiculturalism or environmental sustainability, such as the Christmas edition of the Green Market vegan lifestyle event. While markets like the famed Gendarmentmarkt deserve an honourable mention, a favourite among locals is the Lucia Christmas Market that is presented at the Kulturbrauerei in the eastern district of Prenzlauer Berg. Here, visitors can enjoy a fusion of German traditions and Scandinavian influences: Nordic flags wave from the stalls, traditional songs sound across the market square and vendors prepare traditional foods, including elk bratwurst.

Cologne’s most famous Christmas market stands in front of the city’s cathedral. Cologne’s most famous Christmas Market is situated at the foot of the city’s most prominent landmark and UNESCO World Heritage site, the Gothic Cathedral. The festival centres around an enormous Christmas tree decorated with lights, red ribbons and ornaments. Sip on some Glühwein while browsing the market’s stands as live-music acts perform Christmas tunes, before sampling some Currywurst or South Tyrolian ham.

Most of the markets on this list have historic origins, but for the most part, the cities surrounding them have been modernised. For a truly immersive experience, head to Rothenburg ob der Tauber in Bavaria, a quaint village where you feel as if you are stepping back in time.

This picturesque place draws tourists every year during the Christmas season, as the gabled roofs and cobblestone streets are dusted with snow and illuminated by twinkling Christmas lights. The entire town takes on a festive spirit as residents decorate their windows with garlands. Be sure to try Rothenburg’s trademark Schneeballbiscuit, a kind of fried dough covered in powdered sugar or melted chocolate.

Those interested in a more traditional Christmas market experience should head to Stuttgart, where the city’s five major squares are transformed each year to bring visitors a taste of some of the country’s longest-standing Christmas bazaars.

Some even say that Stuttgart itself is a Christmas city, thanks to its cobblestone streets and myriad historic buildings. The main market worth visiting is the one situated in front of the striking Old Palace, known as Wintertraum Markt. Munch on roasted chestnuts and Lebkuchen as you get lost in a sea of wooden chalets adorned with festive decorations.

Römerberg is one of Germany’s oldest Christmas markets. In the weeks leading up to Christmas, hundreds of wooden huts move to the historic old town squares surrounding Frankfurt’s Römerberg. The market stalls are set in the midst of the area’s timber-framed houses, contrasting with the glitzy high-rises of the financial district in the background.

As one of Germany’s oldest Christmas markets, with records suggesting it dates back as far as 1393, the market at Römerberg is a sure-fire was to enjoy some traditional goodies and Christmas spirit. Handmade trinkets and crafts make for fantastic souvenirs and gifts, and the local culinary specials – from hot apple wine to Bethmännchen marzipan cookies – will give you the full Franconian experience.

Leipzig Christmas market. More than 300 exhibitors set up shop on Leipzig’s market square each year. Just an hour west of Dresden and its famous Striezelmarkt, visitors are discovering Leipzig’s lesser-known Old Town Christmas market. More than 300 exhibitors set up shop on the market square and in the nearby streets and transform the city centre with lights and evergreen garlands. Vendors in the Old Town offer a mix of traditional German handicrafts and food, while Augustusplatz is where the Christmas flair goes international with Finnish products, Swiss cheese and South Tyrolian decor. The musical entertainment on stage is just as varied, and younger guests can explore the fairy-tale forest or meet Santa Claus.

The Heidelberg Christmas market is one of the most romantic you’ll find in Germany. Heidelberg enchants visitors year-round with its quaint Old Town, picturesque river views and the imposing ruins of a 13th-century castle towering over the city. Towards the end of November, the market squares fill with wooden huts and stalls illuminated by twinkling lights. The Heidelberg Christmas market is one of the most romantic you’ll find in Germany, and your afternoon is best spent shopping for handcrafted gifts, souvenirs and decor, indulging in Glühwein and going for a spin on the Karlsplatz ice rink.

German Christmas markets
German Christmas markets

In Heidelberg you will feel like you are in a Christmas fairytale: the Heidelberg Christmas Market with its 130 stalls is one of the most beautiful markets in Germany! Combine – gladly together with your professional, friendly and even Christmas-loving guide – the visit of the Advent performances with a stroll through the old town, and let yourself be explained the numerous sights.

Christmas markets spring up across Hamburg in November and December, encompassing a wide range of themes. The main Christmas market, Weihnachtsmarkt, takes place around a colossal Christmas tree next to the City Hall. While Weihnachtsmarkt has a feel akin to the traditional Christmas markets found in town squares throughout Germany, Hamburg’s central Mönckebergbrunnen shopping district transforms into a magical Christmas forest to host the Winterwald (‘winter forest’) market. If you’re looking for a Christmas market experience with a difference, Hamburg also hosts a range of smaller themed markets, including the Saint Pauli festival – the world’s first erotic Christmas market.

The spa city of Aachen, set close to Germany’s border with Belgium and the Netherlands, turns into a winter wonderland in the run-up to Christmas. The quaint streets and squares surrounding the City Hall and cathedral are decked out with coloured lights and around 120 stalls, selling everything from mulled wine to handmade wooden toys. Kids will love the festive carousel, while friends back home will enjoy an authentic souvenir of Aachener Printen – a type of Lebkuchen local to Aachen, made with caramelised sugar and spices.

Electric vehicle makers are facing multiple headwinds, including slowing demand due to macro pressures, intense competition, and additional tariffs on imports by certain countries. Nonetheless, Wall Street is optimistic about certain EV stocks due to their resilient performance in a tough business backdrop and improving financials. We used TipRanks’ Stock Comparison Tool to place Nio (NIO), Li Auto (LI), and Tesla (TSLA) against each other to pick the EV stock with the highest upside potential, according to Wall Street analysts.

Despite a tough business backdrop, Nio reported solid deliveries in September. The company delivered 21,181 vehicles, reflecting a 35.4% year-over-year increase. Its Q3 deliveries grew 11.6% to 61,855 vehicles. The September numbers included 832 units of the company’s first mass-market model Onvo L60, which was launched on September 19.

Recently, Nio announced that a group of Chinese investors will invest RMB3.3 billion in its subsidiary Nio China, while the company itself will invest an additional RMB10 billion. Reacting to the news, Daiwa analyst Kelvin Lau noted that Nio China is the core operational entity for the company and the cash injection by existing shareholders is a favorable development that supports the business operations. Lau has a Buy rating on Nio stock.

Is Nio Stock a Good Buy?

Daimon directory project

Daimon directory project is an international world wide great brand marketing idea powered by Carl William Brown and the Daimon Club Organization to support, foster and spread the original spirit of the Daimon creative meaning.

Daimon is an inner force, an inner passion, a mixture of desires and aspirations. Our daimon is the genius that lives with us, good and evil at the same time. As Blake would say, it’s the marriage between heaven and hell. It’s death in life and life in death. It’s a kind of enthusiasm that guides us towards the search for knowledge, without believing in any superior entity. It’s an olistic approach to life that struggles against any form of vanity, of stupid power and false authority. It’s a form of magic, of ecstatic feeling, it’s the art of living for freedom without having to submit our inner thoughts to the banalities of our society. It’s a dream that gives hope to our intellect, it’s a mistery without solution. it’s the absurdity of our life, it’s a nonsensical joke. That’s why I thought to link the surrealistic poetics with the spirit of my creation, and that’s why the Daimon Club was born.
Carl William Brown

One of the first examples of surrealistic writer and daimon guided author was Laurence Sterne. He was born in Ireland in 1713 end died in 1768. As a clergyman, Sterne was rather unusual. Besides being involved in frequent amorous escapades, together with some friends he formed a group called “The Demoniacks” which used to meet at Skelton Castle, a curious house on the border of the Cleveland Moors, (belonging to a friend of Sterne’s, who called it “Crazy Castle”, where they indulged in moderate revelry. When I found the Daimon Club I didn’t know about Sterne’s association, but now what I intend to point out is that unfortunately we don’t have a castle, and it’s always more difficult to find people who like to be open minded, not only from a sexual point of view, but also from an artistic and intellectual one.
Carl William Brown

When towards the end of 1997 Carl William Brown registered the first few pages of the Daimon Club website in the main search engines the term Daimon did not appear becuase as a matter of fact it was unknown. Therefore, digitally speaking, it was our association that has had the privilege of inaugurating what would soon have become a real phenomenon. Try to type today on the most famous Internet spider the word Daimon, or Daimon Club and you will immediately realize the real development of the trend.
Carl William Brown

The concept of Daimon is also strongly connected with the meaning of Aristotle’s Eudaimonia, that is to find your inner passion and develop it in a good manner without any excess to live in a virtuous happy way.
Carl William Brown

Each life is formed by its unique image, an image that is the essence of that life and calls it to a destiny. As the force of fate, this image acts as a personal daimon, an accompanying guide who remembers your calling.
James Hillman

International Daimon Directory

The daimon motivates. It protects. It invents and persists with stubborn fidelity. It resists compromising reasonableness and often forces deviance and oddity upon its keeper, especially when neglected or opposed. It offers comfort and can pull you into its shell, but it cannot abide innocence. It can make the body ill. It is out of step with time, finding all sorts of faults, gaps, and knots in the flow of life – and it prefers them. It has affinities with myth, since it is itself a mythical being and thinks in mythical patterns.
James Hillman

Daimon meaning The Greek daimon means ‘divine power’, ‘fate’, or ‘god’. To the Greeks daimons were intermediary spirits between human beings and the gods, acting as spiritual advisors. See Genii, Jinn, Djin and Genius. Daimon is also a common persons name, so we have several websites that tells us something about different Daimon. Daimon is also a semi God of past religions, so we have many sites that explain the original meaning of the word.

For more information and if you want to support and spread this great DAIMON international branding marketing project, you can write us, you can contact us on our socials, or you can also visit our Ko-fi.com page, where it is possible to offer us a coffee or a small donation to help promoting this initiative. Thank you so much and don’t hesitate to keep in touch, we are waiting for you!

In any case I will go on advertising this idea and supporting all the entities that believe in the Daimon metaphorical spirit and therefore also your professional and cultural activities. Then, if you would also like to support our efforts, even with a modest contribution, know that all our Internet activities are at your disposal for any promotion.

www.mulino.it/daimon.htm The birth of Daimon is explained first and foremost with a simple reality, but full of consequences: the transformation of Italy into a multicultural and multi-religious country. Following a path common to all Western Europe, the map of religious affiliations and, even more, the common feeling towards religious phenomena is rapidly changing in Italy. This transformation has highlighted the superficiality of knowledge of religions and the almost total ignorance of their regulations: the first and most immediate objective of Daimon is therefore to provide a tool for understanding the rights of religions, in order to reconstruct and understand the new reality that is taking shape in Italy and Europe.

CITY GUIDES Around London. Cultural information. London must-see places! You’ve got two days. Where do you go?

London was founded as a communication centre by the Romans shortly after they invaded Britain in 43 AD. Londinium, as it was called then, was a little village on the Thames, on the route to the provincial capital in eastern England, nowadays it is a fantastic great metropolis with a population of 7,465,100 people and 11,229,200 in the metropolitan area.

London is a big, splendid City. To visit London is an exciting adventure: so many places to go, so many things to do, so many sights to see. Why not visit it with me? I know London pretty well and I love it. And I can’ be your guide. No charge! So everybody is coming with me. Very good. Our expedition starts from Trafalgar Square, the geographical centre of London. Everybody there, quick!

As we have said before over seven million people live in London, and around 25 million people visit it a year. From the London Eye, in the heart of London, you can see a lot! A trip on the wheel takes thirty minutes. On a clear day, you can see up to 40 kilometres.

See the Crown Jewels in the 900-year-old Tower of London and the famous Beefeaters, too. Buckingham Palace is the official residence of the Queen. You can’t visit the 600 rooms, but you can see the Changing of the Guard. The Houses of Parliament opposite Parliament Square are the home of the British Government.

The Globe Theatre is a modern reconstruction of Shakespeare’s original theatre. The actors perform the plays in the open air!
The River Thames runs through the city. ‘lower Bridge has two levels, one for traffic and one for pedestrians. The Millennium Bridge is London’s newest bridge and is only for people.

The British Museum contains a world famous collection of 7.5 million objects. You can only see a small part in one day. St Paul’s Cathedral is a huge church that dominates London’s skyline. Its 350 steps take you to the top of a dome with wonderful views.

London is the capital of shopping! Harrods is a world famous department store with 330 different departments. Don’t forget Oxford Street for shopping. It’s over two kilometres long and has 300 shops. Or visit Camden Market for its cool fashion and second-hand clothes. Where can you relax in beautiful green spaces? In London’s parks, of course. In Hyde Park you can go horse riding or rowing, In Regents Park you can visit London Zoo.

Portobello is a large building in Shaftesbury Avenue (Piccadilly Circus) for entertainment, leisure and shopping. Built on the site of the original Trocadero restaurant (1896), it was open throughout World War II, it closed in 1965 and was redeveloped the 1980s. Since 2005 it is under new ownership and is expected to undergo a comprehensive regeneration.

Madame Tussaud’s is a museum with a large collection of waxwork of famous figures from around the world. Popular exhibits are the Chamber of Horrors, which gives a scary view of the criminal world of the past 200 years; the Grand Hall with waxwork of the royals including the current Queen: the Spirit of London which offers the sights, sounds and smells of 400 years of London life. Madame Tussaud (1761-1850) was a maker of wax death masks, a technique for recording the features of people before the invention of photography. During the French Revolution she took death masks of guillotine victims, including Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette.

Tate Modem, opened in May 2000, is Britain’s new National museum of modern art. It is located on the south bank of the River Thames at Bankside, near Blackfriars Bridge, opposite St Paul’s Cathedral and next to the Globe Theatre. Housed in the former Bankside Power Station. Tate Modern displays a collection of international modern art from 1900 to the present day, including major works by Bacon, Dali, Picasso, Matisse, Rothko and Warhol as well as recent works by artists such as Steve McQueen, Rebecca Horn and Gillian Wearing. It holds special exhibitions and events throughout the year.

London is a great metropolis. The major airports in London are Heathrow and Gatwick. Heathrow is a very busy, international airport. It is very important for the traffic not only with the main British cities, but also with foreign countries throughout the world. Gatwick is the second airport in London and is now almost equally busy. International flights are direct to European countries, Asia, Australia, Africa and America. There are three and a half hour transatlantic flights from London to New York. These Concord flights are supersonic.

Teens in the UK and the US often hang out in shopping malls because there are lots of cafés and it doesn’t rain. They also meet up in parks, skate parks or leisure centres. In big cities they get together in fast food restaurants or in cafés in fashion shops. The fourth and fifth power. The illusory separation of powers as a model for the governance of a state.

Even though stupidity is a very much fragmented entity, in the end it always remains the absolute and supreme power of the human kind.
Carl William Brown

Force governs the world (unfortunately!) and not knowing: therefore whoever rules it can and usually is ignorant.
Vittorio Alfieri

The separation of powers is a model for the governance of a state. The model was first developed in Ancient Greece and Rome. Under this model, the state is divided into branches, each with separate and independent powers and areas of responsibility so that the powers of one branch are not in conflict with the powers associated with the other branches. The normal division of branches is into a legislature, an executive, and a judiciary.

Aristotle first mentioned the idea of a “mixed government” or hybrid government in his work Politics where he drew upon many of the constitutional forms in the city-states of Ancient Greece. In the Roman Republic, the Roman Senate, Consuls and the Assemblies showed an example of a Mixed government according to Polybius.

The term tripartite system is ascribed to French Enlightenment political philosopher Baron de Montesquieu. Montesquieu described the separation of political power among a legislature, an executive, and a judiciary. Montesquieu’s approach was to present and defend a form of government which was not excessively centralized in all its powers to a single monarch or similar ruler. He based this model on the Constitution of the Roman Republic and the British constitutional system.

Montesquieu took the view that the Roman Republic had powers separated so that no one could usurp complete power. In the British constitutional system, Montesquieu discerned a separation of powers among the monarch, Parliament, and the courts of law. Montesquieu did actually specify that “the independence of the judiciary has to be real, and not apparent merely”. “The judiciary was generally seen as the most important of powers, independent and unchecked”, and also was considered dangerous.

Political media are communication vehicles owned, ruled, managed, or otherwise influenced by political entities, meant to propagate views of the related entity. A similar term, normative media, emphasizes technical and social characteristics of the media itself in shaping decisions. Harold Innis and later Marshall McLuhan, both Canadian media theorists, were influential in developing this theory. While it is simple to recognize a political medium in an official newspaper, magazine, TV channel that directly declares to belong to a group, deep concerns might regard submission of communications to political interests and impartiality of media that do not declare their party alliances.

This influence is not always conspicuous and causes people to accept ideas put forth by those who wish to control communication for the good of society, or causes those who support freedom of communication and minority empowerment to oppose them. Some believe that big societies actually need to canalize communication. In this sense political media would often be meant to form or at least influence public opinion, a least-common-denominator for all members of society.

They are a one-way street and sometimes misused. The Greeks could learn from the Egypt of the Pharaos that some risks could be suffered when medium and executives occur in personal union, concentrating too much power in one hand. This, however, implies the acceptation of a concept of media as power, which is widely but not generally shared. Opponents do argue that the simple fact of producing a communication is not by itself leading to a direct result on the public opinion, unless this one is considered as a merely passive mass in front of an irresistible communication…

Modern Democratic theories and implementations, especially after Montesquieu’s theories, rely on the separation of powers: Executive (government and police), legislative (parliament) and judicial (court) branches of power are separated. Commonly in recent times, and especially in journalistic jargon, media are however defined as an alleged fourth power, and a difference from the others is often outlined in the fact that the power to (eventually) influence the public opinion using media is not much controlled, because media are so “ethereal”, and it would be hard to weight them.

Others instead suggest that this would not be a difference, since the control over official powers is extremely hard to be verified in practice. Often it is not easy, indeed, to find out who really controls a medium and how much potential efficacy it effectively could have for such goals. It is then argued that when one of the three “canonic” Montesquieu’s powers gains an additional power on media, this would be extremely dangerous for the survival of democracy, and an eventual conflict of interests is contested.

Last but not least we have the fifth power which is a term, apparently created by Ignacio Ramonet, that intends a continuation of the series of three classic branches of Baron de Montesquieu’s separation of powers and the fourth power, the mass media. The term fifth power can be used to refer either to economic systems, the Internet or the Church.

If, by the fifth power, what is meant is the economic system, it refers to the power that government exerts in the economic sphere through public companies and the mechanism of economic intervention, which is fundamentally financial. Historically, the relationship between power and economy has been defined within a narrow scope, primarily as the mercantilism of the Modern Age.

However, since the U.S. stock market crash of 1929, four contemporary positions have emerged:

– Capitalism advocates a minimum or subsidiary state restricted to legislation which aids the effective function of the free market. This system, first proposed by Adam Smith, has gained ground in the spirit of globalization prevalent since the fall of the Berlin Wall.

– Socialism advocates common ownership and control of the means of production by the workers and of property in general and the construction of a planned economy.

– Fascism advocates a central, authoritarian style of economic intervention which is commonly defined as corporativism.

– Social democracy advocates government regulation of private enterprise and control over private competition, fair trade, progressive taxation, and public funding for government-subsidized programs. In this system, strategic sectors such as transportation, energy, and the military, can be controlled by the public sector.

A second candidate for the “Fifth Power” is the Internet, which represents a new sort of social mass medium which cannot be included within the narrower, one-way scope of the media of the fourth power. If considered as the fifth branch of power, it is the only one to be controlled by society itself without regulation by the state.

According to Ramonet, Internet users collaborate to form a powerful engine of debate and democratic action. With globalization, the 21st century has the potential to finally bring communication and information to all people. The Time’s “person of the year” 2006 (YOU in a mirror-PC screen) carries the same message.
The internet is both a mass and a personal medium, flexible and scalable.

The internet enables a way of communication which was impossible to be foreseen in past societies. As McLuhan has written, “In this electric age we see ourselves being translated more and more into the form of information, moving toward the technological extension of consciousness (McLuhan, 86).” The software could potentially allow to cement structures which stand against democracy and competition of ideas, as well as structures which could gain a quite complete control over private communications and isolate eventual dissenting voices.

Currently the Net is not completely identifiable as a political medium, given the lack of a central authority and a common political communication. Locally, governments could in the reality use censorship, the first experiments of which have been received with relatively little scandal.

Another strong candidate for the “Fifth Power” title is the church, because of the concept of separation of church and state. This concept has been adopted in a number of countries, to varying degrees depending on the applicable legal structures and prevalent views toward the proper role of religion in society. This concept of separating the power of the Church from the other three powers of the state is much older than the concepts of power of Economy or power of the Internet.

Job Tourism Opportunities in Italy, Lombardy and Garda lake near Brescia. An article that give some tips about tourism and job opportunities in this field.

Being a very wide field, the scope of employment in the tourism sector is very bright and the potential is still largely untapped. Career opportunities exist both in the public and private sector. A very good prospectus for qualified tourism professionals is in the private sector with travel agencies, tour operators, airlines, hotels, restaurants, transport and cargo companies etc.

In Lombardy and Brescia there are a lot of hotels, inns, bed and breakfast establishments, farms holiday, vacation villas, thermal spas, and restaurants which are always looking for fluent English-speaking people who are computer and Internet literate to fill positions as reception desk clerk, management personnel, telephone operators, chamber maids, doormen, waiters, waitresses, etc. These establishments are also looking for people to find foreign clients for them and willing to pay a good commission on sales.

Travel agents assess the needs of tourists and businessmen and help them make the best possible travel arrangements from the many travel options available. Many resorts, travel groups use travel agents to promote their tour packages to travelers.

They deal with almost everything connected with travel including the shortest route to the destination, travel mode, the important documents that will be required (visa, passport, vaccination certificates etc.), suitable places to stay, current exchange rates, tourist attractions to visit, climate and they will plan the trip keeping in mind the clients’ preferences, budgets and special needs.

In travel agencies there are openings for reservation and counter staff, Sales and Marketing staff, Tour escorts and tour operators, cargo and courier agencies etc. Several large travel agencies also offer short-term training programmes, and tend to absorb most of the candidates. Some agencies take in fresh graduates and train them on the job. Most travel agencies demands persons have a pleasing personality and the ability to deal with customers. A knowledge of destinations and procedures help a great deal.

The hotel Industry is basically a service industry providing food and accommodation to the Visitors. It is one which requires a large amount of manpower, with a wide variety of skills. In Lombardy many vacancies are expected to be filled within the next decade.

An hotel offers career opportunities in its various departments such as Operations, Front office, House keeping, Food and Beverages, Accounting, Engineering/ Maintenance, Sales, Public relations and Security etc. One can enter this field through direct entry in some departments or through hotel management institutes. There are many institutes that offer hotel management courses. Many hotels also offer overseas training opportunities, which allow young people to gain promotions rapidly.

If you want to find a job as a chef remember that chefs need excellent cooking skills, food presentation skills, good communication and people management skills and the ability to follow instructions. You also need budgeting and planning skills. Chefs should be creative, organised and able to work well under pressure. They should be enthusiastic and able to motivate their staff. They need to be quick on their feet yet patient and careful. They should be open to learning about new cooking methods, recipes and menus. Chefs should have a good sense of taste and smell, and a reasonable level of strength and fitness to lift large and heavy pots and ingredients. They also need a good level of stamina as they spend long hours on their feet.

Trying to find employment is not so much a numbers game as it is analyzing logically which organizations or sectors in your particular area would need someone with your background and abilities. For instance, I found that there are numerous companies that need English speakers to assist in their services: cooking tour groups, walking and bicycle tours, painting and art schools, ceramic schools, etc. Many of these are owned and run by American companies. Your role could be booking or guiding tours or managing the groups and itineraries. You can find a multitude of agencies on the Internet if you search on the region and the interest you have. The Italian yellow pages online can assist you in finding these as well.

Of course you will need all your work papers in order if you are planning to earn your income in Italy and consequently do your tax returns in Italy. Italian tax laws are very complicated and you should seek out an accountant or commercialista to help you. If you work as an independent consultant, you should always have a written contract binding both parties. You can draft the contract in English. It is also wise to request a small deposit up front for any work. The deposit usually is not denied if the client is serious about the work you will render and about paying you.

Employment in Italy is regionally oriented and the best research you can do before coming to Italy is to study the region you plan to come to. Ask yourself the following questions: What is the main industry or industries that this city or town is involved with? For instance, the city of Arezzo is the gold jewelry manufacturing capital of Italy and it has hundreds of big and small jewelry companies that export and may be looking for fluent English speakers. What is the up-and-coming industry or company of this town?

News events will steer you towards new health spas, new museums, new facilities, new tourism offices, etc. What is the history, culture and attitude of the townspeople? Are they open to foreigners? What products do they excel in producing? For instance the towns of Montepulciano and Montalcino, or the Franciacorta are famous wine-producing centers with numerous companies that export to the U.S. These could be great venues for English-speaking people.

In the end remember that before you start a job, it is helpful to know what the job will be like. In any case if you want to succeed in your career keep well in mind that you will have to work very hard and be always very serious, polite, dynamic, open-minded and motivated and get several years of job experience.  You will have to acquire deep professional skills and competences, you will have to be fluent in modern languages, and you will also need a strong self-control and effective personal human qualities. Then, if you have at least five or six years experience in your field (Restaurants, Hotels, Catering Industry, Tourism, etc.) you will be able to become a trainee manager, consequently an assistant manager and finally a general manager. Good luck, then!!!
